In two independent experiments, THOR researchers have demonstrated that infrared light can be converted to visible frequencies via molecular optomechanics. The experiments have made use of dual cavities able to confine infrared and visible light in nanoscale regions. This is just a crucialstep towards the THOR detector. The results are described in two papers published in the journal Science.
